Thank you for visiting the website of Sookmyung Research Institute of Humanities at Sookmyung Women's University.
I would like to thank the College of Liberal Arts, the Department of English Language and Literature and many other professors, Prime Progect Group for their financial support to establish the institute. Sincerely, all members of SRIH will do their best to become the institute leading the development of humanities at Sookmyung Women's University.
Sookmyung Research Institute of Humanities aims to become a hub of new research paradigm that will lead the study of humanities in Korea.
To overcome the splited academic system
The basis of humanities is synthesis and encompassing. Throughout the modern era, even the humanities have become overly specialized in their respective disciplines. Therefore, it is reality that humanities are becoming more and more intensified and shrinking in understanding and response to the world. SRIH is aiming at the humanities that organize and integrate interdisciplinary and academic studies.
For scholarly communication
The way in which humanities exist is to talk and communicate with each other. At the present stage, the university society is in a situation where formation of discourse and formation of communication are very insufficient. SRIH is pursuing an academic community that will solve the problems at hand.
For humanities-centered consilience and convergence
SRIH promotes "converging humanities". The Institute seeks new cooperative relations between the humanities and various fields, such as natural science, science and technology, cultural engineering, and new media, but pursues scholarly consensus from the humanities perspective and presents insights into the 21st century society.
To restore human-centered communities
Humanities are based on human life. It is an academic discipline for humanity and community rather than an abstract discipline liberated from reality. Based on our understanding and thinking about people and the world, we want to share the values and values of empathy, reflection, justice, critical thinking, imagination and creative problem solving with Sookmyung Women's University and local members. SRIH seeks to create a thematic, holistic human community that is not a function, a tool, or an object.
It may be a difficult time for humanities now. However, humanities have a long history of renewing themselves from the crisis. If so, it may be the right time for humanities. I hope that SRIH becomes its pivot. We will do our best to become a research institute that does not stay in any specific majors or affiliated programs, but is permeating the world and embracing the world. I ask for your interest and support. Thank you.
